So much creativity over some yardwork? As for fire, I'd probably be the neighbor peering out the window too. I feel guilty when I burn a symbolic candle for the Mountain Offering Ritual that I've been doing for the past few months. It calls for a...

Where are my feet?

For the last 3 or 4 days, I've been practicing the meditation "can I sense my feet on the ground?" This is something I've heard said so many times during walking meditation and advised others to do as well. But this is the first time that I've tried so consistently to bring my attention to my feet making contact with the ground.

It sounds like such a simple technique but it's been absolutely fascinating for me to discover how quickly my attention drifts to other things, most of all to the stori… Continue

Thursday's group meditation

I've wanted to express my appreciation to other group members for requesting more time for silent meditation last Thursday evening. It is personally rewarding that others have come to value the need to share the gift of silence together. For me, the primary purpose of group practice is to is to foster a field of energy from which individual practitioners can begin to move more fully into the depths of their own experience. When we sit together as a group, we sometimes discover an increased capac… Continue

How to celebrate a birthday?

Tonight I had the good fortune to go to the Wat Lao monastery to sit with the Theravada Practice Group of Columbus. At the end of the service of traditional chants in Pali and silent meditation, one of the monks came over to talk with us briefly. Somehow we got onto the topic of impermaence, that everything which arises also fades away. In broken English, he asked us to "consider how everything changes." He commented that giving birth br… Continue

Jim, thanks for the response! It helps ease the nerves a bit.
I have just finished Chapter 3 but must admit I feel I need to read it again in hopes of getting a better grasp on the concepts. And, I've never meditated. I'm building up to it, still unsure how to begin really.
Do you think I should wait a while longer, study more before attending?

Thanks again for the input -- I really appreciate it!

Well, to be honest, my magic powers are conferred by Google Alerts. Google automatically alerts me to topics related to Unfettered Mind. This is helpful in my work related to the UM Ning site.

Not sure... I am on a waiting list as of right now. I will decide whether I am going or not if they tell me there is a spot. Are you going?

Hi Jim, I logged on to leave a note about finding recent talks by Stephen Batchelor now accessible through his website, and stumbled on a comment in the probing presence area confirming that I could join you this week. What good fortune to have found your comment. If all goes to plan, I'll join you straight after a weekly feldenkreis class that I enrolled in recently. Thanks again.

Sounds good, Jim. I will see how my schedule and finances look, but it's getting kind of full. I am thinking about going to the Batchelor retreat in October and Shinzen Young retreat in November.
