Event Description

Ken McLeod will join WUTYL-Columbus via Skype webconference for a discussion about meditation practice. Ken will introduce the group to his general approach to practice and then answer questions from us regarding our practice, our lives, and Buddhism in general.

Come prepared with a question. Better yet, e-mail your question to wutyl.columbus@gmail.com so that I can forward it to Ken ahead of time.

Please "r.s.v.p." on our Ning site or to wutyl.columbus@gmail.com The event will be limited to no more than 20 people.

We will request a contribution of $10-15 per person to adequately thank Ken for his time. But no one will be turned away because of an inability to pay.

I will be on retreat starting on the 16th, Jim, so will miss the session. Great that you are recording it.

We're up to 7 local people who have r.s.v.p.'d (is that a verb?) for this event at this point. There are usually twice as many who don't reply on the website at our meetings. So I'll be after people to let me know if they're attending or not.

My feeling is that if we have a full house on our end, that we'll use Skype so that we can have good video and also so that we'll have adequate time for questions and participation from people here who haven't met Ken in person but have bee listening to his teachings and studying his book.

But if we don't have a large turnout on this end, Ken can use dimdim. The video quality isn't as good as Skype but he told me it can be enlarged about 3 times from what we've seen during the online classrooms. Then others could join in.

Whatever happens, we will be recording the event and probably post it here so that people can listen to it. It's meant to be more of an introductory discussion of practice since we're learning from various teachers how to describe the general approach to meditation taken by UN Mind teachers. But I have to chuckle when I say "introductory." It's a word I tend to always use with two meanings.

Janet and Ann....I'm not sure if we'll be able to have extra visitors to this program. I'd like Ken to join us via Skype since the video format is large enough to feel like he's actually in the room. An alternative will have you join us by a second computer through Yahoo messenger. You would see us rather than Ken but the audio quality should still be fairly decent. I'll investigate that possibility soon and let you both know. I will also make a recording of Ken's talk so that can be shared later.
